INFUSE your water!

I know some of us HATE water! BUT we really, really need to learn to love it!  It will eventually get better if you force yourself!

SO let’s try adding lemons, oranges, cucumbers, berries, melons,  grapes, basil, limes, mint leaves, Thyme, Tarragon, Lavender, Rosemary, Lemon grass, Parsley and whatever else your creative mind can come up with! Try and experiment different ones! You never know! Stick with citrus type fruits though to get the best result! I wonder what pineapple, kiwi, or mango would do! I might try some and see!

I love adding lemons and oranges to mine! Russell likes the cucumber water but it is just okay to me!

Try it out this weekend! Get a pitcher and fill it with whatever your desire and let is sit a few hours in the fridge – usually overnight is the best! It really soaks up the flavors! Depending on how much I drink, how fast..sometimes I use the lemons and oranges twice. The flavor isn’t as strong the second time but I still can taste it and I am saving a little money! Make sure to squeeze or press the fruits/herbs a little so the juice will come out of them and mix with the water to get more flavor!

– fresh cucumber, sliced about half or whole if you want more cucumber flavor
–  ice
– A handful of basil leaves (more or less depending on how much flavor of basil you like)
– 2-3 limes (limes), sliced + juice of 1/2 lime (if you like a lot of lime taste)
– cold water (still is fine to sit however long but if you like sparkling you may want to make it by the glass instead of the pitcher so you don’t lose some of the carbonation sitting in the fridge)

Make by the pitcher – adjust the flavors to fit your taste, add more or less – let sit for a few hours in the fridge to get those most flavor packed water.

“It’s not accident. It’s not luck, it’s not fairy dust, its not good genes.” GP

Gwyneth Paltrow on staying in shape. I don't care what anybody thinks, I think she is an awesome and classy lady!

HA! I LOVE THIS! I love when celebrities are so honest! I love to hear the women say at the awards shows: I have been working my ass off and all I can think about is getting these spanx off and eating a cheeseburger! This lets you know that they are not freaks of nature. Yes, there are a handful of women out there that just have that body due to good genes but MOST women have to work for it!

IF you want a nice toned body don’t hate on these women. JOIN THEM! Yes it is easier for some. They have the money to pay somebody to watch their child(ren) when working out, they can pay for they gym, really cool classes, or personal trainers, they have money to eat salmon for lunch and raw fresh tuna for dinner every night or can pay a chef to come in and cook healthy. Some of them have an hour and a half a day to workout while we may only have 20 minutes! I GET IT! BUT it still is no excuse for us! Even if we only have 20 minutes, then get your ass on it in 20 minutes! 20 minutes is better than 0 minutes! Plus if you are eating healthy and watching your calories then you should be fine. Eating healthy is like 80 percent of it! Figure out what time is best for you to workout. Jessica Simpson is up and out the door at 5 am to walk before her kids get up. Russell usually gets up in the morning and is at the gym at 5:00 am or tries to squeeze in a workout at lunch. I try to workout between work and getting the boys or I wait until they are in bed. We all have to figure it out! We get it in because we know it is important! So make it a priority! No excuses!

MOST everyone works their ass off for their good body. Don’t hate on them and be jealous. Look at them for inspiration and think, If they can do it, I can do it! Know most of the time it isn’t good genes, fairy dust, luck, accident as Gwyneth Paltrow puts it but its her working her ass off to be fit and healthy! So stop whining and complaining  join in and work your ass off to get the body you want!

It isn’t about being SKINNY! It’s about being HEALTHY!

(this paragraph is about my past history with working out, if you don’t have time to read skip to the next section) I started working out pretty hard when I got engaged – we sent out 1,000 invites…all I could do was look at that ring on my hand and use it to focus, the hours I was working out was because 650ish people would be staring at me on my wedding day and I wanted to feel the best I could that day! After the wedding I continued to workout but just a little walk or a little run. I then made it a goal to run a 5k! So I did. We then decided to go to Cabo before having Beck I did P90x with Russell – that’s when working out hard started for me. After Beck I lost the weight but then gained some back because Beck had really, really bad acid reflux..we had to stop attending church for a while because he would projectile vomit. We had a good bit of test done and had to go to Lebonheur in Memphis. Needless to say lots of crying and no sleep on both ends. I ate to keep enough energy to go because I was exhausted. Work also sucked that year so I was just in a moment of blah!  I finally woke up one day and said get your act together you are exhausted and beck is a lot and you looking and feeling like crap isn’t helping. So I started hitting the gym and just doing a big mix of what I wanted to do. I did Warrior Dash that April in 2012. So when I got pregnant with Noah (June 2012)I was in shape and I was happy with my body. I had been running and I PLANNED to keep it up and hit the gym, BUT Beckham had to leave daycare (they had a dog in their house and he was allergic which meant he was sick a lot and we were on a waiting list for another) while on the list we had to wait months and months and months…pretty much the entire pregnancy I had Beck at home. I had to go to work from 7:30 to 1:30 – and then go home to him at 1:30. Already exhausted from being pregnant, work, and keeping up with a 2-year-old I had no energy or time to work out so I didn’t. By the time I got Beck in school it was just a few weeks until Noah would be born. Thank the lord I only gained 21 pounds during pregnancy. So after I was cleared (okay actually before I was cleared and I shouldn’t have so I stopped and waited until I was really cleared from the c-section) I got on it! I was happy with  my body right before I was pregnant and knew I could get it back if I worked my ass off. So I did! I started doing Insanity (I had to stop for a while for some reasons with my body/c-section= too much jumping to soon) so I started running and going to the gym. I pushed and pushed! I MADE time for me to workout! I ate healthy and pretty clean. So I was running my typical 3 miles when one day I pushed myself to 5 miles. So I decided I’m going to run a 10k! I was already almost there and in September I did! So I said, hell I have run 6 miles what’s a few more? So I decided to train for a half-marathon (that is next weekend)! While running, I started doing Pilates and Barre in July. So while I have been training I have been doing all sorts of stuff in between – Pilates, barre, insanity, P90x, dancing, kickboxing, bike, elliptical, weights.. I have been switching up my workouts and doing what I want to do! I make my workouts about what I need and what I want to do! I am down to pre pregnancy weight again and I am back in my size 8’s which are a little snug (thanks to the padunkadunk I got from lunges, barre, etc..) I am the most fit and healthy I have ever been. Now, I have been skinnier but not this toned and in shape!

It wasn’t about becoming skinny. It was about becoming healthy and fit and as a result I have becoming healthy and toned, and I guess you can say skinny for me! My goal was to eat healthy and exercise to lengthen my life and the reduce the risk of having high blood pressure, diabetes, and so forth. My goal was to show my boys that if you eat healthy and exercise your body will be around and of good use to you for quiet some time. My goal was to eat healthy and workout so I could feel good about myself! It isn’t about being skinny, though I won’t say it isn’t nice being a toned smaller size. To me it has been more enjoyable being fit and having the strength that I have. I feel like I can do anything! I feel so strong and powerful. I feel like if I can go through labor contractions, have two c-sections, deal with some of the crap I have dealt with in my life, and run a half-marathon ….that I CAN DO ANYTHING I WANT!!! SO I SHALL! So I will now train for a sprint triathlon! 400 meter swim, 12 mile bike, and 3.1 run SCARED?!?! HELL YES! I have never done one or THOUGHT I would do one! But now I have made up my mind and so I will do it!

On the trek to being healthy, strong, and fit I have become a happier person not just with my body but my mind has relaxed. I feel less stressed and uptight. Overall every part of my body has thanked me for this journey I have taken. (except my knees maybe, ha!)  Don’t workout and eat healthy to look like Reese Witherspoon or whoever. Do it to FEEL better and BE better. DO IT FOR YOURSELF! Doing it to be skinny won’t last for long but doing it to be healthy will last a lifetime!

Tell you mind to kiss your ***!

Your mind will tell you that you can’t do it! Your mind will say your are too old or too unhealthy. You have to tell your mind to shut the hell up! Get up off you ass and do something! Your MIND is what will get you through the burning and uncomfortable sensation of working out. If your mind isn’t ready and thinking right, then you can hang it up! You have to get your mindset right! You will keep saying – I have never run 7 miles before how in the hell do I think that I will run 13 eventually? Your mind will say, you are to out of shape to run intervals. Your mind will tell you Yeah Right you want to have a flat stomach by when??? Your mind is going to tell you NO, you are to weak, you can’t do this – but you have to tell your mind to buzz off and you can do this! Yes, it will hurt, yes it will take time out of your schedule, yes you have to be dedicated, make sacrifices and healthy decisions! Nobody said this would be easy! Wether you are losing 15 pounds or 80 pounds, change is one of the hardest things we have to do. All of those sacrifices, healthy decisions, time out of your schedule, sore muscles will make you have the body you want! It will all be worth it when you look in the mirror and smile at yourself instead of hating yourself.

I can’t do this for you! You have to do this for you! I can’t push you! You have to push yourself! Go ahead and set a goal to reach! To walk 4 miles, to run a 5k or a marathon, to lose 5 lbs or 50, to eat all clean foods for 3 weeks – whatever it may be set the goal and achieve it! Prove to YOURSELF that you can do this! When you think you just can’t make it anymore STOP and ASK YOURSELF : Am I dying? Can I go a little longer? If it is yes then get on it! GO GO GO until you just can’t go anymore! Sweaty, Tired, Sore = A good workout You should feel exhausted and be sweaty not cute and ready to party. CHANGES are made with the effort that is given! You give little, you get little – You give A LOT you will get a lot!

Now, get off your ass and go do something that will make you feel better about yourself ! OH and tell your mind to kiss your ass!

Hitting the gym is related to if I look cute or not??

I read recently that a study found around 60% of women are more motivated to work out when they look good. HA isn’t that the funniest thing ever! We go to the gym so we can work out and eventually get the body we want but if we don’t look good we don’t want to hit the gym as much!?!?!?!?!/ WHAT? This makes a lot of sense though – I LOVE getting new workout gear and looking all cute when I hit the gym because I feel better about myself. (Which is the case even when I am not working out. I always try to fix up because I feel more confidant and better when I am dolled up.) So if you look like crap and you already feel like crap about yourself…its kind of saying you more likely to sit at home and not workout. HMMM interesting…because I have heard so many people say I don’t like the gym because people stare at me and I feel uncomfortable. You feel uncomfortable because you are uncomfortable with  yourself. You  know your aren’t the weight you need to be, but hey that is okay! You will be that healthy size but you have to start somewhere! Get up off you couch put makeup on, fix you hair, buy a cute shirt, sports bra, capris, etc…and exercise! Nobody said the outfit had to be 100 pair of workout leggings – buy something that makes you feel comfortable when you exercise and gives your mood a boost! I also like to reward myself with little workout treats when I can! When I have new shoes, new sports bra, cool new pants, shirts, headbands, even new music I get excited about going! Plus I just spent money on all of it so my ass better get up and go!

Don’t let being uncomfortable with yourself stop you! Start now and eventually you will lose that uncomfortable side and hitting the gym will be no problem!

Number one: Start eating right – eating healthy is like 80% of it!

Number two: Start Working out at home so you can get comfortable with exercises and lose a few pounds before you actually hit the gym – this will give you a little more confidence since you’ve lost a little weight

Number 3: buy cute workout clothes when you have lost a little. This will make you want to go because you look cute and lost a few, plus you just spent money on it, so you better wear it!.. nobody said the outfit had to be crotch length skin-tight shorts with a sports bra! Buy what is comfortable and looks good on YOU! I LOVE tight capri pants a loose-fitting shirt!

Number 4: hit the gym and be proud of who you  are and what you are doing- screw everyone else and what they think! This is about YOU and no-one else! Screw them, you will show them in a few months who is boss of that gym!

Do you love your mind and body???

Do you love your body? Do you take care of it? We rush around 24/7 on little sleep, eating whatever is the fastest and worried about what we have to do next. We have list after list of what has to be done for others. Are we on our list? Do you see anything on that list that is GOOD for YOU! I am not saying to be selfish but I know a lot of times I get caught up in doing for others that I come last. I can’t allow myself to be last all the time or I will lose myself. I always put others in front of me but sometimes I just need to say no and so I have. There is only so much that can be done in a day or a week. I make time for myself. I consider exercise an hour for Rivers to have time to listen to fun music, workout frustrations of the day, and work toward a better body. I use to hate working out  but now I make myself love it. Exercise makes me more fit so I feel more confidant and better about myself and the quiet time ensures that an hour a day I get a moment of silence. I also take a bath pretty  much every night because that helps me unwind from the day this is also when I usually catch up on a really good book or a magazine that I want to read. I go to bunco once a month even when I feel a tad guilty for leaving the boys because I get to laugh with the girls and be Rivers. Russell and I also TRY and have date night so that we can just be Rivers and Russell together. I try to get healthy options at the grocery store and have them ready so that I choose better eating choices. Better eating choices make me feel better! Those little things keep me being Rivers so that I don’t get lost in the shuffle.

I need to give myself the time to workout and have a peaceful moment of prayer. I need to allow myself the time to pack healthy lunches. If I treat my mind and body good they will be of great use to me for many years. If I treat my body like crap then it will repay me with crap. Leave the dishes in the sink if it is 9 pm and you haven’t even sat down. Who cares? Your sanity is much more important than dishes! If you keep pushing through life without taking care of yourself then you will end up angry, bitter, resentful, mad, unhealthy, and depressed. You have got to take better care of yourself. Eat better, workout, have prayer time, and relaxing time so that you don’t get overwhelmed and burned out.

Remember that life is a gift. Your body is a gift. Take care of the gifts God gave you. Your body is a temple, so exercise and eat healthy. This will keep your mind clear so that you CAN enjoy the full life God has in store for you!

You live, you learn! AM

Alanis has been most girls favorites since the 90’s! I was listening to her songs the other day when I was painting and I thought what a great freaking song. I thought I would remind us of just how good it is, since we may have forgotten!

Our lives are filled with so much stuff that makes us hurt but that is LIFE! Life isn’t perfect, there will be ups and there will be downs. Heart ache is around each corner. We have to be strong and get through it all! We can’t let every little thing tear us down. We also need to remember that we will screw up and when we do we should learn from it!  This is how we become who we are! LIVE your LIFE! Don’t be scared to do, act, say what you want! BE yourself, put yourself out there and live the life the way you want to live it. It is short and you don’t get a second chance!

Some of Alanis Morissettes You Live You Learn Lyrics – from

I recommend getting your heart trampled on to anyone
I recommend walking around naked in your living room
Swallow it down (what a jagged little pill)
It feels so good (swimming in your stomach)
Wait until the dust settles

You live you learn
You love you learn
You cry you learn
You lose you learn
You bleed you learn
You scream you learn

I recommend biting off more then you can chew to anyone
I certainly do
I recommend sticking your foot in your mouth at any time
Feel free
Throw it down (the caution blocks you from the wind)
Hold it up (to the rays)
You wait and see when the smoke clears

You live you learn
You love you learn
You cry you learn
You lose you learn
You bleed you learn
You scream you learn
